THE GAME

Seven Minutes to Midnight is an intuitive and accessible semi-cooperative strategy game, with unique mechanics and a focus on depth over complexity.

Guide a nation through the Cold War, creating or breaking partnerships along the way. There are many pathways to victory, and many viable strategies.

Whether it be war, pacifism, espionage, nuclear arms, or diplomacy, the stakes are high, and the game can end at any moment. Move quickly to secure your position before somebody else brings on the apocalypse.

Rather than complex systems, there are a few rules which combine to create large possibility spaces and offer many options. There is no hidden information, no cards, and no secrets other than what your enemies are planning.

Combat has been designed to execute quickly, and numbers are kept small for easy calculations.

THE DILEMNA

The problem is, although we have a fun and engaging game on our hands, that has undergone a good deal of testing and refinement, how do we get it out there? Publishers? Kickstarter? Self-publishing?

That remains to be seen. Check back here for a continuous development log, more detailed explanations of the design, and - possibly in the future - to order your own copy.

For the moment, I am contacting publishers hoping to pitch, but am also investigating producing a small run of beta versions for sale via self-publishing (100 copies).

 So, we'll see.

THE PATH FORWARD

The plan at present is to continue to pitch this concept to publishers, but it is fully possible that it will not be licensed. In the meantime, I will finalise the prototype, and if it becomes clear that this will go the self published route, the following two steps will move forward:

 1) A print-and-play edition will be made available for sale on this site, alongside a Tabletop Simulator template. The funds gathered will be held in reserve until there is enough for...

 2) A small print run! This will be labeled as a beta version and made available on this site as well as some small shops. This only goes forward if there is enough funding for 100 copies, though hopefully there may be demand for more!

(There likely will not be pre-orders, unless the print run is a sure thing; I don't want to create any messy refund situations)
